About University Psychiatric Hospital Vrapče

The University Psychiatric Hospital Vrapče (UPH Vrapče) is the largest psychiatric hospital in Croatia and a university teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Zagreb. It provides specialised inpatient, outpatient, emergency, day hospital and community-based mental healthcare, while combining clinical care with education, research and innovation. The hospital has experience in digital transformation, digital mental health, and the implementation and validation of digital health technologies. Its modern clinical and IT infrastructure, multidisciplinary expertise and role as a pilot hospital make UPH Vrapče a valuable partner for testing and validating cybersecurity solutions within the ShieldHealthAdria project.

Expertise & experience

The hospital's expertise includes biological psychiatry, psychogeriatrics, psychotic and affective disorders, addictions, psychotherapy, forensic psychiatry, sleep medicine and clinical research, alongside experience in telepsychiatry and the application of artificial intelligence in psychiatry. As part of its digital transformation, UPH Vrapče has implemented an integrated Hospital Information System covering clinical and administrative functions, and has gained experience in the implementation, testing and validation of digital technologies in clinical practice through collaborations with AI4Health.Cro and the University of Zagreb.

Role in ShieldHealthAdria

UPH Vrapče is one of the Croatian pilot hospitals in ShieldHealthAdria. The hospital contributes to WP2, WP4, WP5 and WP6 by supporting baseline cybersecurity assessments, pilot deployment and validation of cybersecurity solutions, capacity-building and awareness activities, and project communication and dissemination. As a pilot site, it provides a real clinical environment for testing and validating cybersecurity solutions.

Key contribution

UPH Vrapče serves as a pilot hospital where cybersecurity solutions will be deployed and validated in a real clinical environment. The hospital contributes to baseline assessments, pilot implementation, validation activities and staff training, supporting the project's objective of improving cybersecurity resilience in healthcare. Its technical infrastructure includes enterprise network and security systems, virtualised server infrastructure, identity and access management, clinical information systems, and quality-certified healthcare services.
